Callistemon
Rosy Morn™
A dense
compact shrub (60cm - 1m H x 1m W) with grey-green,
purple-tinged foliage. A long anticipation period begins with
elongating buds covered in beautiful red bracts, opening to
misty-purple brushes in spring and early summer.
The
nectar-rich flowers provide plentiful food for honeyeaters,
while wrens and other small insect feeders will feast off the
insects attracted to the flowers.
It is very hardy in open or semi shaded sites in dry or moist
clay or clay loams, in cool temperate to sub tropical regions.
Tolerates heavy frost, and will suit a second line coastal
situation.
Uses: As low hedging requiring only minimal pruning, or
specimen planting mixed with other shrubs or beneath taller
screening plants. A strikingly handsome container plant.
Maintenance: trim off spent flowers in summer, and
prune harder to encourage compact habit. Feed with low
phosphorus controlled release fertilizer in early spring or
late summer. Use best quality potting medium if container
grown, keep moist.
