Leptospermum
Lemon Bun™
A small dense
mounding shrub (45cm – 1m H x 1-1.2m W) with soft
lemon-scented foliage. A profusion of lime-cream flowers
covers the foliage in late spring and
summer, attracting butterflies and providing food for
insect-foraging small birds such as Scrub Wrens. It grows
easily in open sunny or semi-shaded sites, in well drained to
moist or wet clay loam or sandy soils. It is hardy in cool
temperate to sub tropical climates, and will tolerate light to
moderate frosts.
Uses: It is perfect for low hedging, with minimal
shaping required; may be planted beside pools and bog gardens;
and can be clipped regularly to create a formal ‘ball’ in a
decorative container. Dramatic effects may be achieved by
repetition of containerised plants in a formal courtyard,
patio or terrace.
Maintenance: Lemon Bun requires regular trimming if a
formal appearance is desired. Light pruning is advised after
flowering, and older plants will respond to severe cutting
back if required. Feed in early spring or late summer with low
phosphorus controlled release fertiliser. Minimal watering
only is required when established. If container grown, use
only first quality potting medium suitable for Australian
native plants.
