Grevillea Edna Walling® Softly Softly™

Grevillea Edna Walling® Softly Softly™

A compact little shrub (30 - 40cm x 35 - 55cm) with soft grey-green foliage, and showy bunches of pink and cream flowers from late summer through winter to spring. The nectar-filled flowers are loved by small honeyeaters, especially Spinebills.  Cool temperate to warm dry climates are preferred; suitable for well drained loam or sandy soils, neutral to slightly acid.  It does best in full sun or light shade.  Frost tolerant; may be grown inland or near the coast.

Uses:  group in small gardens to soften darker foliaged plants; as a border plant; or as a long-flowering container plant in a cottage garden setting.

Maintenance: Trim lightly after flowering.  Feed lightly in spring with low phosphorus controlled release fertilizer.  Do not over water.

Edna Walling Softly Softly is that amazing combination of beauty and resilience which endears certain plants almost overnight.  Exquisite bunches of pink flowers flourish from winter into summer, and again in autumn.  Grown in a container and kept just barely moist, it thrives on minimal care yet looks a million dollars.  Eastern Spinebills love it.
