Grevillea Bonnie Prince Charlie™

Grevillea Bonnie Prince Charlie™

This compact dwarf shrub grows well in the garden (60cm x 60cm-1m) or in containers (up to 40cm x 60cm). Strikingly showy red-and-gold flowers cover the foliage in waxy bunches, attracting honeyeating birds in spring and summer through to autumn. It thrives in temperate and semi arid climates, in full sun or light shade, and does best in moist well drained clay or sandy loams, neutral to slightly acid pH.  Frost hardy, it is also suitable for second line coastal planting.

Uses: It forms a brilliant and hardy container plant for courtyards and patios, and is excellent for massed planting in garden beds, or to provide dramatic accent in rockeries.  It looks stunning when planted amongst brilliant blue dampiera, or with its taller 'cousin' Grevillea Jubilee.  Together they make an irresistible feast for honeyeaters, as you see:  a confident little White Plumed Honeyeater ('Greenie') gathers nectar.

Maintenance: Trim to shape after flowering. Feed in early spring or late summer with controlled release low phosphorus fertilizer. In containers, use best quality free-draining potting medium, and do not over water.
