Corroboree Waratah

A dense medium to large shrub (2.5 – 3 m H x 2 – 3 m W ) with broad grey-green foliage. Prolific quantities of large deep red, pink-tipped waratah flowers bloom throughout spring, providing nectar flow for eager honeyeaters. Corroboree will grow in cool temperate to sub tropical climates, does best in full sun or light shade, and prefers well drained soils of neutral to acid pH. Frost tolerant once established, and suitable for second line coastal or inland regions.

Uses: A spectacular specimen; hedge or group planting for outstanding bird habitat; transitional planting on drier margins of ferneries and rainforest plantings. Select for superlarge container planting, repeat for dramatic effect in formal landscape designs. Outstanding cut flower selection.

Maintenance: Prune when flowering season is finished; clip behind the spent blooms to promote lateral growth and further flower heads for following spring. Feed with low phosphorus controlled release fertilizer in early spring or late summer. Water deeply to establish young plants, thereafter only as required; and apply organic mulch to conserve moisture. Avoid pine bark mulch. Use premium quality potting medium for containers.
