A medium
shrub (1 - 1.5m H x 1.8m W) with a soft arching habit. The
small lanceolate leaves are green above, and silvered green
below; new growth is purple-pink, dotting the plant with
colour even when not in flower. Clusters of glowing red
flowers, borne along fine stems and hanging like lanterns,
occur from late winter through spring, and are a constant
source of nectar for honey-eating birds. Thrives in full sun
or light shade, in moist well drained clay or sandy loams,
neutral to acid pH, in cool temperate to sub tropical
climates. Frost hardy, suitable for second line coastal
situations.
