Grevillea
Charlie’s Angel
The first
issue from the ever-popular Bonnie Prince Charlie, this little
shrub will startle you with the intensity of its flower
colours. Small in stature (10 - 15cm H x 20 - 30cm W) but big
in impact, this offspring has even more flowers than its
parent, and blooms for an even longer period. So profuse are
the red-and-gold clusters that the plant has formed a compact
habit in response to restricted stem growth. As for bird
attraction, the honeyeaters will queue for a feed every day.
Charlie’s Angel will grow in cool temperate to sub tropical
and semi arid climates. It is suited to sandy soils, or dry to
well drained clay loams, neutral to slightly acid pH.
Extremely frost hardy, and suitable for second line coastal
conditions.
Uses: an ideal plant for small gardens, mixed with
other small shrubs or mass planted for dazzling effect. Group
several in a container, or let it share space with a more
upright companion such as Grevillea New Day.
Maintenance: Trim only as needed, when flowers have
finished; feed in late winter or late summer with low
phosphorus controlled release fertilizer. If grown in a
container, use only premium potting medium and do not
overwater.
