Hakea
Pink
Lace™
A medium sized shrub (1.8 - 2.2m x 1.5
- 2m) with a graceful weeping habit, and sweetly perfumed multi-hued pink flowers crowded along the
stems in late winter and spring. It provides a perfect
habitat for many small native birds, including honeyeaters,
wrens and thornbills. Hardy in a range of climates, from cool temperate to sub tropical
and semi arid. Thrives in either full sun or light shade, in moist clay or sandy loams,
neutral to acid pH. Frost
tolerant, suitable for near-coastal or inland regions.

Uses: great for
screening without bulk, and provides excellent nesting and feeding habitat for many small native
birds. Plant in drifts in larger gardens for full benefit of its beautiful perfume and massed pink
blossom. It is particularly eye catching when combined with
winter-flowering wattles such as Acacia boormanii,
the Snowy River Wattle.

Maintenance: requires
only light trimming for shape, after flowering is finished. Feed with low phosphorus controlled
release fertilizer in early spring or late summer.

Pink Lace is a
feast for your eyes, and for any honeyeaters flitting by … and the perfume is something else again.
Plant a group, plant a hedge, and watch the wrens and finches move in to select safe nesting sites. Pink
Lace describes the flowers exactly. Winter never looked so good to a honeyeater.
