Anigozanthos Cross
of Gold™
Each lovely flower has a turned-back fringe, enabling honeyeaters access
to the nectar deep inside, at the same time dobbing a blob of pollen on each bird’s head … a neat
way of ensuring pollination as the honeyeater flits from flower to flower and plant to plant.
A Kangaroo Paw to leap about for!
A medium sized clumping plant (40-65cm x 40-60cm) with clean strap leaves of medium dark green. A
multitude of bright red furry stems to 90cm bear large golden yellow multi-branching ‘paw’ flowers
from late spring to late summer, beckoning honeyeaters from afar. A second (autumn) flowering is
encouraged by cutting out spent flower stems.
It prefers an open sunny position, in well drained sandy or loamy soils, neutral to slightly acid
pH, and will thrive in cool to warm dry climates. Frost tolerance is moderate, and it will grow well
in second-line coastal situations.
Uses: a spectacular specimen or group plant, and a very showy long-flowering container plant;
also a very long lasting cut flower.
Maintenance: Trim off spent flower stems neatly at base of foliage. Apply low phosphorus
controlled release fertilizer in early spring or late summer. Use best quality potting mix if
planting in tubs, keep moist but do not over water. In garden, low water needs when established.

Flower
heads in clusters make a spectacular sight for many weeks, and an excellent cut flower for indoor
decoration.
