Melaleuca Ulladulla Beacon™

Melaleuca Ulladulla Beacon™

A dense, quick growing groundcover, carpeting or mounding to 30cm high x 1 - 2 metres wide. Bright green foliage is highlighted in spring and summer with brilliant bird-attracting orange-red brushes. Grows well in full sun or light shade, in climates ranging from cool temperate to tropical; will tolerate light frosts. Thrives in dry or moist sandy or clay loam soils, acid to slightly alkaline pH.  Especially suited to front line coastal gardens, and easily withstands salt laden winds.

Uses: plant densely on banks to suppress weeds and to hold soil from erosion; plant as an undershrub, or to cascade down walls or steep slopes. Excellent for coastal gardens where it will provide protection for small plants just being established.

Maintenance: prune well after flowering. Feed in early spring or late summer with controlled release low phosphorus fertilizer.

A spreading carpet of summer colour, and hardy as can be. Feed those honeyeaters! Go for Flora for Fauna!

You can’t walk past this one! Ulladulla Beacon, named for the lighthouse near which it grows in coastal New South Wales, could not be easier to grow, and covers your soil with a dense carpet of lovely foliage.  Then in summer, a burst of flame orange flowers erupts to gladden your days and entice honeyeaters from dawn to dusk.
