Walling® Rose Myrtle™
A graceful weeping small shrub
(1.2m x 1 - 1.5m) with shiny foliage, smothered with
perfumed shell pink flowers in late spring and summer,
attractive to nectar and fruit eating birds and insects.
Suitable for temperate to tropical climates, growing in
light or full shade in moist clay or sandy loams, neutral to
acid pH.
Uses: Attractive
as a specimen or flowering container plant; ideal for formal
hedging and for mid level screening. In late summer,
the colourful sweet fruits may be picked and made into delicious sticky jam
(recipe below).
Maintenance:
If used as a hedge, plant at 60cm centres; prune lightly
in first year to develop dense growth. Trim lightly as
required to maintain preferred height and width. Apply a low phosphorus controlled
release fertiliser in early spring or late summer. If
container-grown, use good quality potting mix, and maintain moderate levels of moisture.

Sticky Rose Myrtle Jam :
simmer equal weight of
fruit and sugar for several
minutes, stirring
often; if fruit very ripe, add
small amount
of lemon juice. Test frequently
for set.
Fill small jars while hot,
seal.

Edna Walling Rose Myrtle
has a new dress for every occasion. Here she is clothed in sweetly perfumed pink, each delicate
flower with a centre of fluffy stamens which offer pollen to exquisite and harmless native bees,
moths and butterflies.
