Edna Walling® Blue Bells™
A small dense shrub, or very light twining plant with
purple-blue bell flowers in summer. The leaves are finely
edged with white, imparting a 'moonlit' effect to the plant.

Hardy in climates ranging from temperate to sub tropical;
likes full sun or light shade, and grows best in well
drained clay loams or moist sandy soils, neutral to slightly
acid pH. Suitable for coastal gardens, will tolerate light
frosts. An excellent source of food for insect-eating small
birds such as Scrub Wrens.

Of
special note, this form is a sterile hybrid selection, thus
ensuring that it cannot become an environmental 'weed'.
It cannot set fertile seed (unlike one of its parents, S. heterophylla,
which is known to spread in certain localities.)
Uses:
grow as light climber on walls or veranda
posts, as low hedging, or trimmed neatly as an elegant container
plant.
Maintenance:
trim to shape as required. Feed with low phosphorus slow
release fertilizer in late summer or early spring.
If planted in a container, use best quality free-draining
potting medium, and do not over water.

Edna
Walling Blue Bells is covered in delicate blue
bells all summer, and its pale foliage is a nice blend of
soft green and cream tones. A lightly twining plant, it
will grow happily in a container or in the garden.
